Wasp Control

Wasp – Vespula vulgaris
History
Wasps are social insects and form large colonies, or nests, which are socially structured and highly organised. Wasps are a widespread pest during the summer and cause fear and concern in many people because of their powerful stings especially as some species are quite aggressive.
The queen usually spends the winter in a warm protected site often located in lofts, attics, wall cavities or in the ground. As many as 30,000 wasps can populate a nest.
Why Control Wasps ?
Wasps are a seasonal hazard and if left untreated can pose a number of problems, including :
- Food contamination
- Sting injuries and distress
- Damage to property – chewing of woodwork and plasterboard
Method of Control
Our most direct method for the successful control and eradication of wasps is as follows :
- Locate where the nest is
- Apply an approved insecticide onto the nest
- Within 2 hours of the treatment the nest will be destroyed.
In instances where wasps are frequent visitors eg cake shop we have alternative control methods :
Electronic Fly Killers are extremely effective in controlling wasps, which are strongly attracted to UV light. The Fly Control Unit will kill very large numbers and provide peace of mind for serving staff.
Insect Screens on doors and windows will help stop wasps entering buildings.
For outside spaces, particularly gardens, we use wasp traps. Using a wasp attractant, these are extremely effective in maintaining wasp free zones in the affected area.
