Strathearn Pest Control can eliminate your squirrel problems.
Grey Squirrel – Sciurus carolinensis
History
The grey squirrel was introduced from the USA between 1876 and 1929. It is now common throughout England and Wales and is found locally in Scotland. The red squirrel disappearances typically followed the arrival of the grey squirrel although other factors including lack of food and harbourage sites and disease also helps in their elimination
Why Control Grey Squirrels ?
The grey squirrel is a serious pest in plantations where it can cause serious damage by stripping bark from trees. It also, however, presents a number of other problems, if left unchecked, including :
- Damage to parks and gardens where cereals, vegetables and fruit are taken
- Damage to buildings where access is gained to roof spaces leaving timbers, electrical wiring and plumbing at risk
Method of Control
There are a number of different control methods available :
- We normally use cages to trap the animals and then humanely remove them from the affected site.
- Other methods include shooting and drey-poking.
- We will also make recommendations about preventative measures including proofing.
