Pigeon Control

Feral Pigeon – Columba livia
History
Birds can often cause problems, especially pigeons. They are a growing problem to public health in urban areas.
Feral pigeons are related to rock doves which is a reason for their desire to nest on buildings which brings them into contact with us. They breed all year round and can have up to nine broods of two eggs each per annum.
Why Control Pigeons ?
- Pigeons spread diseases such as Ornithosis and Salmonella
- Droppings are extremely corrosive and deface buildings
- Fouling of entrances and walkways presents a slip hazad
- Increased building costs – maintenance and cleaning
- Nesting material provides ideal breeding site for biting insects
Method of Control
We use varying methods of control which are determined by location and circumstances. Once the birds have been displaced we put measures in place to prevent any further re-infestation.
- Survey the affected areas
- Remove the nesting materials
- Dust or spray with insecticidal sprays to control any pest (biting insects) activity
- Access holes will be blocked to prevent re-infestation
- Common bird proofing measures, including netting and specially modified 'spike' systems, are used to prevent re-infestation.
