Ground Beetle – Family Carabidae

History

This insect can vary in size from 3 – 30 mm long. The larvae and adults are very active and feed on caterpillars, slugs and snails. They also feed on vegetation and are known to invade buildings.

Why Control Beetles ?

• Ground beetles are harmless and are not known to breed indoors. They can however be perceived as a nuisance
• However, other beetles including the Saw-toothed grain beetle, the Merchant grain beetle and the Confused flour beetle can destroy crops and food produce. 

Methods of Control

• An approved insecticide can be applied around wall and floor edges to create a barrier to intruding beetles.
• For other beetles, as above, the affected food sources should be removed and the immediate area treated with a residual insecticide to prevent re-infestation
